TURNING OLD TO NEW

I like the thought of using found objects when decorating.
It's fun to come up with new ways of using flea marked finds and combining them to make new things for the home.
For this little project I have used a couple of embroidery frames as wall decoration. I have then attached a  cover from an old music sheet and for the other frame I used a small crochet tablecloth. The candle is made from an old oil lamp and a small tray. /Annika

MY FOUND FLOWER CORNER

My little flower table is pretty much a mix of anything I have found and turned into something useful. The table is an old garden table with a really worn and chipped paint. I have covered it with a piece of left over floor protector from Ikea. This makes it easier to clean and I can still enjoy the old looking garden table. The shelving is made from old wine crates which I have painted. Working as a florist you get access to a lot of things that are reusable as we often get flowers delivered in pots or boxes, but we then replant them and are left with perfectly functioning containers etc. The two little metal baskets are former candle packaging and perfect for storing things.

The sign is a recent project, made from an old shelf and I just love the simple look and feel it gives my little flower corner. My ribbon wall is a very good example of how collecting things can turn into something fun and decorative. I took apart an old wine rack and used all the bars for the ribbons. They have little holes in them from the wooden plugs that held the rack together, perfect for hanging on hooks. /Sussi

Have a look at Fabriken for more great recycling projects.

little cake mold candles

I love candles and I had been thinking about using these little muffins molds and turning them into candles for a while now. Thought they would be perfect to use on Christmas Eve for the table decoration.

This is quite an easy project. You use tea candles, take out the candle wick and place the wax in the mold.
Place it in the oven and heat at 150 °C for ca. 10 min. You might want to place it on an oven tray. When the wax has melted you take it out of the oven, put back the wick and wait for it to cool down.

The molds I used were rather small, but it'll work in any size mold. Just adjust the amount of wax you use by cutting extra pieces and place it in the mold. Happy project!  /Annika

nostalgic moments

I have been in Stockholm the last couple of days visiting relatives and I always get quite nostalgic when I´m here. The houses and the things they store all bring back a lot of memories from my childhood. One of my favorite things is this box of old photos and postcards and I actually happen to find it this time. It´s probably around 15-20 years since I last had a look at it, but it still keeps its magic. I found this old wedding invite in the box dating back to 1896 and the font is absolutely beautiful.

The little toothpick holder and pot mat is a couple of flea-marked finds. Hope you enjoy! /Annika

vintage type and turquoise colors

Recently I started collecting retro/vintage typewriters. Maybe it's not so much a collection but more a collection to be...since I only have two of them. Then again...since it's all about collecting you would actually have to start out with only one and work your way up. So I'll call mine a collection...i like the sound of it. The thing about being a collector is that you apply rules to the way you collect your objects. In this case I'm not interested in just any typewriter, nor does it have to be expensive. It simply has to speak to me. The first typewriter I found was turquoise and I payed 0,5 euro for it. It had my name typed all over it.

So today I urge you all to start collecting something that speaks to you. Whether it may be old books with great vintage type or as my sister does so well...she stores dried flowers for decoration and color inspirations. /Annika

the treasures of a drawer

When I was a kid I loved to go through my grandmother's drawers. They where filled with ribbons, beads and buttons and it was like finding a treasure. I remember that I always liked to group everything into colors and piles. Today I still go through drawers and cabinets, but they are my sisters. She has most of our grandmothers old collection of sewing accessories and she has through the years made quite a collection of her own as well. I always bring my camera and drag everything out on a table and start matching things together to create little settings. Here I will spend hours trying to capture the treasures of a sisters creativity. /Annika
