projects and holiday cheer

I like to use things or objects in a different way other than what they were intended for. Old photos used as decoration on a tree or as present tags...it's both personal and really charming.
Sweet Paul is a great blog. You'll find tips & ideas for decoration, craft projects and food. All made with a very homey and cozy feel. When you go visit his blog, be sure to check out his online magazine. These pictures are from his holiday issue and I promise you'll find plenty of holiday cheer on those pages. /Annika

favorite piece of furniture

This Tuesday's theme for Fabriken is our favorite piece of furniture. I have several that I really like, but I thought this was an interesting one. This is a piece I bought recently. It's a small kitchen cupboard I use to store china and some odd pieces of ceramics. I simply love this one. The patina is really beautiful and it has these little quirky original doorknobs.
Visit Fabriken for more favorite furniture. Have a great Tuesday! /Sussi

little cake mold candles

I love candles and I had been thinking about using these little muffins molds and turning them into candles for a while now. Thought they would be perfect to use on Christmas Eve for the table decoration.

This is quite an easy project. You use tea candles, take out the candle wick and place the wax in the mold.
Place it in the oven and heat at 150 °C for ca. 10 min. You might want to place it on an oven tray. When the wax has melted you take it out of the oven, put back the wick and wait for it to cool down.

The molds I used were rather small, but it'll work in any size mold. Just adjust the amount of wax you use by cutting extra pieces and place it in the mold. Happy project!  /Annika

sunday decoration

Since I have been away for 1 1/2 week, the Christmas decoration has been lacking a bit around here. Today I made this simple tray with Christmas ornaments I found in my cupboard. I'm reusing my old stuff this year.
Trays are some of my favorite decorating items. They are so practical and easy to move around even when you have filled them with things.
I like this earthy and natural style and together with silver or gold it gets a really elegant look.

You can find more Sunday pictures on Fabriken´s site

all i want for christmas

You know that moment when you think you have everything and couldn´t feel happier? When your wish list for Christmas consists of nothing else but a wish for a wonderful evening with family and friends!?
Well that feeling has turned into a craving for things I don´t even have room for and I have now decided to redo my wish list and include a couple more things. This is how it happened:
I was over at Vosges Paris (great blog) reading & browsing and then suddenly I found myself on the beautiful website of Dave Coote. A couple of clicks and I was weak to my knees. By the time I was done looking (for now), I had remodeled our apartment in my head 3 times to try to fit this gorgeous kitchen. My wish list is now overly crowded and I truly believe there is no such thing as cooking without a blue range cooker. :-) /Annika

christmas in gamla stan

Everytime I´m in Stockholm I always like to take a stroll through Gamla Stan. This is a place I find quite inspiring because of its enormous amount of detail. The architecture is especially lovely here, old buildings, small shops and narrow alleyways. The shops are very charming and they do a lot of decorating both inside and outside the stores. Here you´ll find a lot of great signs and old inspiring details and the Christmas season only adds to the charm. This is definitely one of my favorite places in Stockholm. /Annika

winter white window

This Tuesdays theme for Fabriken was Christmas window. During the summer we use these double-doors that faces the terrace, but when it´s cold and winter like this we keep it closed and I turn it into a cozy relaxing space. The light is great out here and we get the late sun during the afternoon.
The stars hanging from the three is made from glue. I use a glue-gun to draw out the stars on a non-stick surface and when they have dried I use a simple sewing thread to hang them from the three.
I had a really hard time keeping our dog out of the pictures today. He loves to be in the middle of everything and is all about the attention.Or maybe he just wanted to be on camera :-) Happy Tuesday! /Sussi

nostalgic moments

I have been in Stockholm the last couple of days visiting relatives and I always get quite nostalgic when I´m here. The houses and the things they store all bring back a lot of memories from my childhood. One of my favorite things is this box of old photos and postcards and I actually happen to find it this time. It´s probably around 15-20 years since I last had a look at it, but it still keeps its magic. I found this old wedding invite in the box dating back to 1896 and the font is absolutely beautiful.

The little toothpick holder and pot mat is a couple of flea-marked finds. Hope you enjoy! /Annika

winter table decoration

One of the more fun and challenging things about being a florist is when you do table or party decorations. You often get to be a bit more artistic and daring, which can produce some really interesting results.
So this weekend was all about making center pieces for a friend that was having a party.
I love how this piece has such a natural and simple look, but yet very elegant. Its suits the winter season perfectly. /Sussi
